Grants Appliances scams in many ways!!! Here's how...

As a former employee, I know the ins and outs of this company, and let me tell you that you are better off going to the big box stores any day. First of all, the prices, Grant's Appliances used to have tags with no prices on their merchandise, used to be like a wheel n' deal kind of place. Now they have all the prices advertised and it's all marked way up. After 1/2 hour of "negociating" back and forth, the salesman comes back saying "I'll take $200 off!!" when all he's really doing is showing you the real price. During training they told us to pretty much LIE to the customers by telling them an inferior product was "better" just because some manager at the office ordered too much of something. Then there was the huge scam with the $500 gas/grocery coupon. Every employee knew it was a scam, we were kinda embarrased to offer it and close deals with that, it was just really dishonest, and I sincerely regret having ripped off some of my customers. I was also ashamed of working in a company where even the VP was used to making racial remarks and sales people laughing with him. I wanted to keep my job so I didn't say anything. "Do whatever it takes to close the sale, most people don't know any better" That was my manager's motto, and after working in 3 different stores, they are pretty much the same, it's the culture of this company. Do yourself a favor, and shop at Bestbuy, Lowe's or Sears. A lot more integrity there since they're not commission hungry sharks. The guys at Grant's will do whatever it takes to get your money. After that, they wash their hands.

i purchased my whole kitchen and washer and dryer from grants in joliet. i went in knowing what i wanted and had gotten other estimates.from competitors first.

i told them model numbers and after being quoted had them lower the price to beat the competition. the result was a great deal for me. i installed appliances myself and the delivery of everything was smooth. moral of the story is the same as everywhere else.

nothing is free. if you want the best price dont expect to have your cake and eat it to.

Guest

What a BS company. Couldn't have been nicer when we were in the store.

Worked hard to get us the BEST price. Delivery in 4 days. Wrong. Delivery people sucked and didn't install two of three items.

Had to wait another week. Woops, make that another week. Still waiting for right stove and salesperson has turned into an *** and is now passing the buck. WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THIS LOSER STORE AGAIN.

I was hesitant in the first place due to horror stories. Should have listened.

Guest

DO NOT BE FOOLED!!! I had a GREAT shopping experience at Grants well at least my sales lady in Chicago was great!!!

She really new her stuff and as a matter of fact she caught several mistakes that her competitor made with my appliance selection that could have cost me tons of money but yet she didn't bash the company or the sales rep she simply directed me into the product I wanted and needed and yes a great deal!!!! I do agree I've been to a couple of other Grants locations and the sales reps are clueless and rude! I hope she gets out she is way to good for this place!!! Also really?

The VP racist? I'm not shocked I hear lawsuit!!!!

Guest

Grant's is a GREAT salesman for us here @ Lowe's, we get quite a few customer's for life when they are finished with the "Used Car Lot" games @ Grant's.

Guest

i was actually quite pleased with my salesperson. they beat all the pricing that was offered by other competition no problem.

i came in looking for an LG and they were honest with me and told me it would be a LONG time before they came in so it would be on backorder for a while.

We ended up purchasing a washer dryer from whirlpool instead and it was about $300 less than what we came in looking to spend with the LG. i also checked and they were a good 60-70 less than other stores

Guest

I purchased several appliances from Grants in Aurora Ill on 11-27-2009,with associate Tammy Vieceli. I was promised 2 rebates totaling $650.

As of June 2010 all I have is promises from Tammy.Without the rebates I could have gotten a better deal at several other stores. :(

Guest

I couldn't agree with you more. Stupidly, I read your review too late and am stuck with an inferior washer and dryer.

I knew what I wanted but the salesperson talked me out of it.

I am so disgusted with their attitude about the consumer and their deceitful sales pitch. :(

DO NOT BUY FROM GRANTS!

There are so many messed up situations about this company. Now I am faced with either taking them to court over this $500 rebate scam or eating it. They TOTALLY screwed their customers! Do not buy anything from them. They made ZERO effort to fix it even though they screwed up and is trying to blame it on the other company. It is ultimately THEIR responsiblity and they could care less. We bought a more expensive TV from them because of this freaking deal! I'm so mad I cannot even breathe! Do not trust them , the salesmaen or anyone related to them!

They purchased the gas/groceries vouchers from a 3rd party. They did too make an effort to fix it- I didn't get anything from the first voucher company (which went bankrupt) and Grant's sent out a second voucher company (which also went bankrupt).

Grant's then sent a 20% discount coupon for anything in their store. If you had bothered to read your paperwork it states on there that Grant's is not responsible if problems with the vouchers; they are from a 3rd party. I have purchased many many appliances and electronics from Grant's without any problems.

Grant's price matched products without problems, too. Shame you are blaming the company for something they didn't have any control over.

Price matching promised but not given.

We bought a new flat screen Toshiba tv in November 2009 based on salesman recommendation. Was promised price matching by salesman. Brought identical tv model in advertisement for price adjustment the next day. Salesman said would have to check with manager, he was not working that day. After repeated stalling and passing responsibility, manager promised $200 refund would appear on our credit card within 10 days. No refund or explanation or response still has been given three months later. We are now putting our correspondes in writing and have sent to local manager. Also soon to be sent to corporate office, BBB, and whoever else we can think of to try and get our promised price matching refund. Have done 2 kitchens full of appliances plus miscellaneous things for many years with Grant's since they only had the Joliet location. So much for no advertising because satisfied customers were all the advertising they needed. Will definitely not make Grant's my first and only stop for everything. Beware! Get everything in writing from them and make sure to follow up. W

Grants appliances grocery deal

I purchased a washing machine and was supposed to get $500 in grocery's back at $25 per month. Grant's made two bad business decisions and both companys supplying the gift cards went belly up.

Now Grants wants to give me 20% off to make up for it. I won't buy from them anymore and won't recommend them as I believe they are responsible for the $500 that is owed to me.

I have contacted Grants and get hung up on when I call, and they are not responding to emails. I think I have been offically cheated by Grants Appliance's of Joliet Il.

If you read the print on the bottom, its from a 3rd party..Grant's had no control over the companies going out of business. Learn about the situation first

Email Judy as she is getting a class action suit against Grant's

We need to do something about this. That was the only reason I went to Grant's was for the $500 in groceries. Any suggestions

Guest

I tried filing a complaint with the BBB and they said they wouldn't. Said the complaint had to go against BBZ.

Guest

Join the club. 20% off for one year, big deal, would have to spend $2500 to recoup my original $500 that was promised.

What if I don't need an appliance during the year?

I lose the whole amount. Better Business Bureau still gives them an A-plus rating despite their sleazy dealings with this matter.

Guest

Same with me.. I read the "fixer" in the Chicago Sun Times and someone else who got suckered recieved the $500.00 !

from Grants. Why is one persons money better than the rest of ours? You get better deals at KMART!

and they are the same product! Kmart and Sears are now together THATS WHERE i SHOP NOW never grants aGAIN!

Guest

We were also suckered by this idiocy these supposed "bad companies" pulled by going under and such. Grants may or may not have had any idea this was going to happen, very funny it happened twice in a row.

Their actions by offering the 20% off is just ***. "Hey let us go spend more money at a place that has ripped us off already......" that should work out fine.

I also think LALA T Y should get back to work, i think Grants is calling.

Guest

I am so disappointed in how Grant's has handled this situation. Offering "20% off on future purchases" is a slap in the face.

I got sucked into their promotion offering free gas or groceries by purchasing two appliances that I would have bought elsewhere.

DO NOT BUY FROM GRANTS APPLIANCES! I was a loyal customer- but not no more.

Guest

I spend over $100 per month on groceries every month. Not my fault Grant's picked the wrong company.

They should have given the rebates back themselves instead of hiring it done.

Sincerely not-loyal Grant's customer

Guest

I'll be willing to accept my refund in 25$ increments up to the full redemption amount. Grant's promised 500$ and then 600$ over the respective time periods and their agent failed to come through. It is not my problem that they have contracted with a company that has failed to fulfill the contract that they made with me.

Grants Appliances false advertising rip-off

They sold a washer to us on the premise that it came with $600 in free gas or food certificates, and they did not provide this service that they had contracted out to 2 different vendors. After the first vendor flaked out, they said the problem was going to be fixed. On their website the CEO was very sorry and was determined to make everything right. After many contacts, we finally got the actual form to mail in. When we registered, again, after many calls and e-mails we were told their vendor was bankrupt and their "solution" was to offer a 20% discount on future purchases from Grants. As if we would buy from them again after all this hassle and not providing what their giant ads said all over the store!

I had the exact same experience described in this article, altlhough my rebate was promised as $500. In addition as I encountered

very rude sales people when I called about a defect in the dryer that

had just been delivered.

My next step is to contact the Attorney General's office as advised in a 2/22/10 Sun Times/Trib article.

Scam on Groceries and Gas

I purchased appliances because they were offering $500 in groceries or gas and it has been almost a year and I have received anything. They only reason i went to Grants was for this special. I could have gone to Lowels instead. I have called several times over and over and I keep getting the runaround. they tell me the compnay that were to issue the gift cards are out of busniess. But that is not my problem. Grant's offered this special to me and I want my $500.00 and $9.95 I had to pay to register.

Bottom line...Grant's advertised this program.

The salesman recommended it to me. Grant's entered me into a relationship with both of these failed companies. Obviously Grant's did not do their due diligence in researching these companies as they failed in just a few short months.

GRANT'S IS RESPONSIBLE. Jacob...perhaps grant's DID do their due diligence which is why they chose two grocers going out of business???

My husband & I purchased a water bed from Futon King based on the Grocery Rebate. It clearly states on our receipt that we will be receiving $500.00 in "Free" groceries!

After sending in 5 of the monthly vouchers-we received notice that the company had filed bankruptcy! After contacting Futon King their response was to say that they had another company in place to handle the rebates. They said that they would mail out a new voucher application. After 2 weeks & 2 phone calls, still no application.

My husband went into Futon King to speak with the salesman. He acted surprised when my husband said we hadn't received our voucher. He then offered to pay us $150.00 and call it even!

My husband requested that they lower the cost of the bed by $500.00 nad we were told that would be impossible! So now what???!!!

Guest

My husband and I purchased two TV's last year so we could take advantage of the gas and grocery rebates. Now I understand there is a law suit, which I received a claim for, but I don't understand how to fill it out. Do I have to hire an attorney now to get our $1,000 to $1,200 returned to us?

Guest

Also scamed by Grants! To the person who said the prices were not jacked up to offer the rebate that is a flat out lie!

I wanted a sale item and they said that if I wanted to get the 500 rebate that I would have to pay 50 more for item! Grants should know the company that they are dealing with and if they don't then they need to compensate all of us for their stupidity!

I plan on filing a complaint with the Attorney General. They can keep their lousey 20% off and *** me!

Guest

I too was scammed. I do not want a discount on future purchases.

I want restitution. I will never again buy anything from GRANTS.

Guest

How do we file a class action suit?

Guest

I just got my letter in the mail about the 20% off up to 1k. I'm looking to get money back, not SPEND more.

What a joke, then you have to sign a release form that says you will not pursue any action against Grants.

If anyone finds anything about any class action lawsuit in the works, please post it here. Thanks

janeeagan E

We should do something. This is the only reason I went to Grants because of this offer.

I could have went to Lowes are anyone else.

Makes me mad all the time, copies, and postage I wasted on this. Its been a year.

Grants $500 "inconvenience"

I just received a letter from Grants regarding their failure to live up to the $500 rebate. I only reason that I bought my washer and dryer at Grant's because of this $500 offer. The washer and dryer that I had were old, but working. Their letter is very arrogant referring to my lost of the $500 rebate as an "inconvenience". If they feel that $500 is a mere inconvenience, then they should live up to their $500 offer. How arrogant is it to offer an apology with which to get me to buy more from them so that they can make more money. I will never buy anything from them again.

Grants scam

I only bought my appliances at Grant's because of the 500.00 offer. I was going to go to Best Buy or ABT because they were cheaper but bought Grants. So not only did I spend more on the appliance then other places, but I never got a dime of the % 500.00 gift card's that was promised to us. I am super upset and think it's awful that they are offering 20% discount as their resolution to this problem. I would never buy anything from them again. Wh I say start a facebook page about this and also call the BBB and maybe the news to air this story on TV.

Entire kitcehn redone never again with them

My wife and I were selling our house and needed to replace all the appliances. e.g. refrigerator, double oven, counter top range, dishwasher and microwave. When they came to install it the installer was trashing sales for not having a preinstall review done by them. He proceeded to install the microwave wave above the cook top which was too low. When we called back to the service manager with the complaints and he gouged the wood floor we got no response After several calls he said it was out fault and offered $ 50.00 for the repair of the wood floor. The installer said there should of been two people doing the work and that is why HE scratched the floor. The microwave distance does not meet the building code Watch out fo them. I have been a Grants customer for years. Have bought multiple kitchens and four flat screens THEY LOST MY BUSINESS forever

Delivered defective fridge

I ordered a Whirlpool refrigerator (Model ED2KVEXV) from Grants Appliances Electronics in Merrillville, IN and it arrived broken on 9/03/08. I called hours after the installation because the refrigerator was on but was not cooling. I was told that it would take 24 hours for the fridge to be completely operational. I called customer service 24 hours later and spoke to Barbara. I found her attitude excessively rude and dismissive, especially since I had a legitimate complaint. After being shuffled around from customer service to the store manager in Merrillville, I requested a different customer service representative because of Barbara's rudeness. The next customer service rep, Sarah, offered reluctant cooperation in an exaggerated saccharine tone. Politely, rigidly and severely terse she attempted to antagonize the situation and avoid assistance, by repeatedly stating that it was not Grant's responsibility because Grants only delivers the appliances. The service rep completely ignored my logical reasoning that since I paid Grants for the fridge, I could only hold Grants responsible. With no other recourse, I spoke with Whirlpool's customer service and they informed me that they would never replace the defective fridge, but would send someone out to look at it. Another disturbing revelation, especially since I paid for a NEW refrigerator, I expected the defective refrigerator to be replaced with a new fridge. Beware of the lack of support AFTER you purchase a Whirlpool.

I recently had a bad experience with Grants. Bought a new oven and 4 days later the interior glass explodes (manufacture's rep claims probably tighten too much at factory).

Grant's won't provide any assitance and told us we needed to contact the manufacturer directly. This is BS when you have a defective product less than a week after purchase.

Then on top of it, the manufacturer says its going to take a week to order the new part. Go somewhere else that stands behind their products, and look closely at the return policy.

Guest

have used grants for most of our appliances, never a problem with them. I got a microwave a few months back that was had a defective magnetron but I called the manufacturer, they were out the next day and they fixed it.

I don't expect a brand new item when one part is broken and I don't expect Grant's to fix the problem. They just sold it.

I go there because the have the lowest price, but i go in saying I want the price on this. And on that microwave, nobody had it in stock, nobody, but Grant's did, and the only time I spent in the store was when I went to pick it up, everything was done over the phone.

Guest

I had a similar situation with a broken appliance. Rather than replace the broken appliance, they said they'll repair it.

This is a brand-new appliance!! I could go on and on about the way they misrepresented me but suffice to say, they've lost my business even if they offered me free appliances!

Guest

I WORKED AT GRANTS WHEN THE ONLY LOCATION WAS THE STORE IN JOLIET IL.AND IF THERE WERE RUDE CUSTOMER SERIVE PEOPLE AND RUDE MANAGERS YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE THE HIGHEST MANAGERS THERE. GRANTS WOULD NEVER ALLOW A CUSTOMER TO BE TREATED LIKE THAT....GIVE THEM ANOTHER CHANGE, THEY DEAL WITH EVERY MANUFACUTRE AND 100'S OF PEOPLE WEEKLY, MAYBE YOU JUST GOT A FEW PEOPLE WHO WERE HAVING BAD DAYS.

YOU MEAN TO TELL ME YOU CALLED UP THERE NICE AND POLITE YOURSELF? GRANTS IS THE NUMBER ONE APPLIANCE STORE AROUND ANY WHERE.....

Guest

Hey, buyer4life, could not come up with a little more creativity when you thought for a name, huh? Go to Grants when you have your service problem, see if they even remember you! Again, I stand with my comments about Grants, they should be in the used car business, not appliances.

Guest

I can never get a good price from lowes unless I tell them I have been to Grants!! Then the price gets a little better.

But I return to Grants because they took care of me first. I wish they sold lumber

Guest

Here @ Lowes, if this would have happened so soon after purchase, we would have set up a swap account for you and had a brand spanking new Whirlpool delivered to you next day! Actually, we get A LOT of disgruntled Grants customers, who always say they are treated like they are on a used car lot when they go in there due to the overly aggressive nature of their salesmen.

Also, customers have told me personally that the prices "mysteriously" change when trying to even get a price from one Grants salesman to another.

When I have called them (Usually the Downers Grove store on 75th St.) They will not even quote a price even when I am pretending to be the customer! So, all in all, keep up the good work, there, Grants, your doing Lowe's advertising and customer care for us!!

Punished for finding a better deal

On 12/29/08, my mother and I went into Grant's Appliances on Lagrange Road in Orland. Mike assisted me with putting a French Door LG refrigerator on hold (layaway) with a payment of $206.08.

I used a Mastercard/Debit Card that was attached to my First Midwest Bank account to pay the down payment. I had until the end of April to pay for the refrigerator. Between December 29, 2007 and April 20, 2008, my husband and I decided to divorce and sale the house.

I was still in need of a refrigerator so I decided to purchase a cheaper refrigerator so I went back to Mike, explained my situation and he assisted me with purchasing a refrigerator that costed less.

The store did not have the actual refrigerator in stock. We choose the refrigerator from a list of refrigerators on Best Buy's website. He applied the $206.08 amount that had been holding the refrigerator since December to the cost of the new refrigerator. I used my debit account from Chase Bank to pay the remaining $779.29.

We set up a deliver date. I wanted to see my new refrigerator so I went down the street to the Best Buy on LaGrange Road also in Orland Park, IL. The floor model was on sale for $100 cheaper so I called Mike Botzenhar back at grants who said he could simply cancel out the order. However, when I called him back after purchasing the refrigerator at Best Buy, he said it would take 30 days to refund my money.

I explained that I had closed the First Midwest account and he said he knew because the transaction was denied but I would still have to wait 30 days. I called the Joliet Office on April 20, 2007 and April 21, 2007 who also said I had to wait 30 days to be refund my total amount. I explained I closed the First Midwest account and they said they would refund the entire amount in one check. On May 6, 2008 I received a refund check (attached) from Grants in the amount of $779.29.

When I called I was told the accountant had left for the day and would return my call on the following day. No one called on May 7, 2008. One May 8, I called and spoke to Helena who told me that Grants refund the money to the closed account and it was no longer their responsibility as they had done their job. This was also repeated to me by the store manager who said I purchased it as a credit so they simply credited the account.

I paid Grant's $985.37 and should be refund that amount.

I feel as though I am being punished for not purchasing the refrigerator from their store.

Starting in April of 2009 -I made several purchases from Grant's Orland Park. What made me buy more that 4,000.00 worth of TV's and Appliances was the 500.00 gas or grocery gift card. The prices were higher than Best Buy, but offering this was like chumming a fish, I ended up a couple of cards, for gas. They actually made it sound like you were going to leave with a 500.00 gas or grocery card, but not the case.

It would take better than a year. You have to spend over a 100.00 a month for fuel - sent receipts and then wait for a 25.00 gas card and almost two years later you will have your $ 500.00. I found out Saturday at the Grants store in Orland Park on - 8/22/09. That all the customers that fell for this are OUT OF LUCK - The company is no longer in business.

If I would like to try again it will cost $ 9.95 to register with another company - I have made alot of purchses over the years with Grant Appliances, Saturday I went to store to buy a Flat Screen after hearing this I walk out and went to Best Buy, purchased two.

This is my last purchase at GRANT'S.
